Man in
nature...the nature in man.
I
paint both portraits and landscape. Figurative and abstract. Sometimes melded
into the same painting. I paint
from life, photography and memory. I am inspired by the age-old dialog between
the duality of art and science, the dichotomy of realism and abstraction and
the intersection of technology and craftsmanship. I describe my work process as 'spontaneous contrivity'. Being in that flow, as the artist Fritz
Scholder expressed, "Is walking that tightrope between accident and
discipline."
I find this
juxtopositioning, often molded into the same painting, in narrative and in
technique..., a fascinating and compelling enigma to explore...and as in life, almost
always a contradiction.
